I don't think you'll be disappointed if you do choose to play the first one. Even if the story winds up not being your cup of tea, it's still a ton of fun.
So here's the basic idea. There's this small circular device called the Ray Sphere that basically kills everyone in a huge radius except for a select few who obtain superpowers when exposed to its radiation. Your character, Cole, is a courier who was carrying it in a mysterious package when it went off in his home city, killing a large chunk of the population. He gets lightning powers, military closes off the city, superpowered freaks and assorted thugs start preying on normal people.
Cole chooses between good and evil, but it doesn't change as much as in the second game. Basically, he meets his archnemesis in a Conduit (term for superpowered people) named Kessler. Kessler does lots of shitty stuff, including killing Cole's girlfriend in front of him. Cole obtains the Ray Sphere, choosing whether to absorb its powers or just destroy it- both of which break the sphere and kill a poor guy named John White. Cole works up to his final confrontation with Kessler, defeating a telekinetic old man named Alton and a mind-controlling freak named Sasha as bosses. When he fights Kessler, a particularly awful twist comes about that reveals that Kessler is Cole from the future.
His powers developed to the point that he could go back in time. He did so because in his future, a god-like Conduit known as The Beast appeared, killing everyone Kessler loved and destroying most of the planet. He went back in time to try to prepare Cole- himself- by accelerating the development of the Ray Sphere through an organization he takes over called the First Sons. They're basically black ops jackoffs, you know the type. He killed Cole's girlfriend and made him hated by the city to try to harden him into a Cole who would be able to defeat the beast when it arrived. He figures he's succeeded when Cole finally kills him.
In case you were wondering what the Omega DLC trailer music was. BioWare sure does love their Two Steps from Hell. They've used their songs in every trailer. Even one of the ME2 ones.

Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis/ Welcome to the Sticks
This is a comedy. An ordinary men is sent to a peculiar region in France.
A good movie but there are many jokes that are lost in the translation. :/
Les choristes/The Chorus Amazing movie. It´s a drama with a some comedy and musical elements. Beautiful.
Asterix et Obelix contre Cesar and Astérix et Obélix: Mission Cléopâtre. Probably one the best comedies i´ve ever seen. ~
And don´t forget about Amelie. Is not really a great movie, but the art style and soundtrack make up for everything.
