All the textures are stretched, pixelated and have jaggies. Not to mention most of the environments are just background pictures anyway, makes the game feel like playing a theater production.
I didn't mind playing it way back when but by today's standards my brain feels like its melting.
I still think that FF8 graphics are good. The static background scenarios are very well designed and th CGs are still beautiful. However, when battling the graphics look awful.
Oh I played that shit (and FFVII) on Pc too ages ago.
Yeah it's normal for it to look like that. I suggest you to quite before your eyes blees.

I've been having these weird thoughts lately… Like, is any of this for real… Or not?
Rof, I actually prefer FFVII's graphics to FFVIII. I played 8 first and then 7 and I was like "why did 8 look like shit when 7 is not that bad (apart from characters)?"
is this the PS3 PSone Classics version recently released in stores?
FF8 does look kinda shoddy on HD tvs but it fairs ok in SD and still looks great on PSP..
as for your stretching thing i think you need to adjust the screen mode for the PS3.
Press the PS button, under screen or settings and something like that, put normal or original and it should be better. zoom or stretch will look weird.
We all have rose tinted glasses when looking back i suppose. I think at the time the graphics were brill, but they do look blocky now. The gameplay is still excellent though. And we are all entitled to our own opinions, but I thought that 8 was far better in most ways than 7. I did prefer the materia of 7 to junctioning of 8 though!!
