Mission 3... can somebody post where this is at? i ran all over the map and couldn't find it.
I couldn't find it either... it's tricky, cause it's off a little offshoot path and the map is all fogged to places you haven't been... its easy to think you'd already been there. Here's how to find the mob for Mission 3.
1) Go to your Area Map.
2) Press the SQUARE button, this brings up a Mission List.
3) Go to mission 3, this changes the map to where mission 3 started, I'm using it as a reference.
4) Move the map straight south till you see the save point.
5) From that save point, move the map so you can see more west area (left) until you see another save point.
6) Continue going west from that save point, off the edge of the walkable map. Very soon you will see the red star... walk towards that loaction.
NOTE: The mission list is actually useful if you've been busy griding or didn't pay attention to the mission story (and care about it) and want to go back and read it, it's there in full in the mission list. But I think the most useful thing about it, is being able to use it as a reference point on the map for us who can't take screenshots.
A great way to get CP after you've beaten the game is to keep doing this until you have full TP, then kill an Adamantaimi with the summon knockdown/Vanille Death trick for 40,000(!!) CP. Then just rinse and repeat.
Vanille Death trick? I know about the knockdown but is there more?

Just spam Vanille's Death ability (5 CP for jammer) and hope it works. Tried it out for a while and it took like 4 attempts before I managed to kill one before it stomped me.

I got a Good Choice from one of the missions in the 10-20 range, iirc. Also if you get it to level 2 it becomes a Best Choice which increases the rare item drop rate so I keep both equipped (particularly useful for getting that trapezohedron for ultimate weapon upgrades as ptd mentioned).
Another great grinding spot is right before the entrance to Mahabra caves.
There's a behemoth and another monster (megalo something) fighting each other, and you'll ALWAYS get a preemptive strike when you run into them. If your characters are strong enough you can kill them in 15-20 seconds for an easy ~6.5k CP.
this works great! i use atk bla jam the whole fight. only thing to watch is making sure the KB is in the air until he dies because if he transforms it can get out of hand. otherwise everything is smooth and it finishes fast with the 6k CP
These missions are a pain... the story really slowed down when I got to Gran Pulse, and I thought the game was almost over... now it looks like I could spend days here. But the missions seem worth it... not only do I want to unlock them all, but they give you good items. For instance, Mission 3 gave me a 400+HP ring. But it was a lot of backtracking and running around to get to the mission boss.
You guys notice that it permanently ranks your missions when you go into the Mission List you can see your individual mission ranking, and you can retry missions if you go back to their start point... anyone try getting a perfect rating on all missions? I bet it unlocks some worthless PS3 XMB trophy if you do that.

I don't know how true this is, but I'm guessing Death's effectiveness is increased by getting Vanille's JAM to level 5 and casting Weak and Deshell on the monster first. I usually have no trouble getting Death to stick before it stands back up, if not then always on the second try.

Ahh, that makes sense. I'll have to try it, thanks.

I somehow skipped missions 6 and 7, and after about mission 11 I don't see any more missions to do, so I'm going to try and move on.
EDIT: BTW after I upgraded my Good Choice to LV 2 it was maxed and gave it a STAR, but it didn't change the name to Best Choice... it's just a maxed Good Choice. Is there something else I need to do to upgrade it?
I just found a good place to get CP in the big plains area (forgot the name...). Once you have unlocked chocobo riding, there is a chocobo-only path near the circle of six or so dark monuments. In the big area on that path, you'll see a group of round critters with leaves on their heads. Approach them, a cutscene will play, and an Ochu appears. The ochu and his five baby-ochu are medium difficulty (I died 1 out of 5 times) and will give you 13300 CP per battle.
I start the battle with attack/blaster/enhancer to let the Enhancer make my weapons fiery and cast haste on my party, then switch to attack/blaster/healer for the rest of the battle. Kill the Ochu first, since it can do a lot of damage, then focus on the little guys. Also, it's easy to get a preemptive attack by jumping off the ledge next to the ochu and walking up behind it where the treasure chest is.
Sorry, I'm not sure how to take screen captures either.
It's by the save point in the very upper left of the photo you took of the map. You can't miss the two fighting monsters; they're blocking the path right before you get to the cave's entrance.
Yeah, those two are awesome for grinding out some CP... I had been avoiding them because King Behemoths and my party just don't mix... everytime I get a King Behemoth down to low health he stands upright and then fully restores his health, then next time you get him low he tends to do a double-combo verticle strike attack against my party leader that ends the match. But here, you always get pre-emptive attacks on him, so you can hopefully killl him before he has a chance to stand upright. It worked most of the time for me... a few times he does still get lucky and stands up... then your pretty much screwed if that happens unless you've been CP grinding for awhile and have your HP up. A huge key if he does stand up, is to just Assault Rush him anytime he's facing the other monster... but if he turns to face you, you MUST immediately switch to include a Defender role and defend quickly... if your defending when he throws the strike you won't die, but that's the only way I know how not to die when he launches his big HP costing attack. I grinded it out here awhile, so now I'm good... I'm going to move on until I can get Chocobos and then try that better spot for grinding that only Chocobos can get to.
I didn't read through all the posts, but if no one mentioned it I have a spot where the fight takes you about 30 seconds and you get 6,600 CP everytime. To add to it's awesomeness the monsters are too busy fighting each other to deal damage to you until you kill one.
If I'm reading the map right it's to the far east, before you would go to a new area. There's a save point just before the mob fight. It's a big black dog thing that can stand up if you beat it up (guessing these are the Behemoths) and he's fighting one of those big white wolf guys.
Everytime you walk up to them their health is already at half, they won't look at you, AND you always get a pre emptive strike on them. The trick here is to take out the Behemoth first before he can fully heal.
My party members are Fang, Sazh, and Lightning. Fang is ATK, and the other two are BLA. The fight starts, and you want to be in control of Fang. Sazh and Lightning will BLA the Behemoth right away, you want to build up your ATB attacks(I have 5 with Fang), and the second the two BLA are done blasting you execute your attack to keep it air juggled until the two of them can attack with magic again. Just experiment a little bit and you'll find a way to tackle the Behemoth like me in a matter of seconds. As for the big white wolf thing it's stupid easy. Just Zerg him, and if he gets anyone to 800HP or below quickly swap to healing.
I get 5 stars everytime and a total of 6,600 CP. I assume I'm getting some good items for leveling weapons too since these guys would be tough on their own to fight.
Once you beat them run off a pretty good distance and they respawn, and you can keep grinding them for fast leveling.
Hope that helps.
Edit: Seems the map has no North, South, East, West and it will turn itself at different points as you run through it. The spot you want is towards the big black sphere. If you zoom your map out far enough you will see a big black sphere somewhere. Run towards that.
For you guys who are still grinding on Gran Pulse, proceed to village and unlock your lvl 9 Crystallium 1st. You won't be forced to proceed with the story any further. You can still turn back for more grinding. The reason to unlock lvl 9 1st is to get your long awaited "finishing move, overlimit, limit break" or whatever you wanna call that =)

Woah woah woah. There's limit breaks in FF13?! I'm going to go right now to do what you just said. If this is true I'll be pleased, but also annoyed that they are kept from you till Ch11 of the game. :/
Edit: I hope I'm going the right way. I've been going through some cave tunnel place now, and got Vanille her summon, but no village yet.

To make a ★ level weapon or accessory evolve, you have to use a specific evolution item. Once you get it to ★ level, all of the materials on the list should be grayed out when you try to upgrade it. If you have the correct evolution item, it should be the only item name that's white.
I accidently skipped missions 6 and 7 too. You have to go pretty far into Mount Yaschas to find them, all the way to the ruined city area. After you finish them more missions should open up.

Yeah, add a ムナール石 (stone something) to it at max level. Should have specified.

That's not good... the only place I can find that item is in the shop above LENORA Garage in the list when you go to buy items at save game stations... and it costs 60,000 gil...
I'm going to have to wait for the currency exchange rate gods to align the numbers more in my favor before I can purchase such a worthless upgrade... I mean, it just lets me potentially get rarer items after battle right? is that really worth 60,000 gil? My biggest problem in the entire game, has been my poverty... never nearly close to enough gil.

Don't be too happy yet. Apparantly the skill for Lightning is under Blaster tree. And the damage is meh~ for a cost of 5 ATBs. My attacker mode can do 24k x 5 during 999% break status but the finishing skill only do about 4.5k x roughly 20 hits or less under the same condition. However, it is good to use it once or twice right after a break occur because the number of hits make charging up break damage % a breeze.
(later in the morning I will count the exact number of hits, and also try out the other characters' new skill, off to bed)

What village (the oerba village? Because you first have to fight the fal'Cie to get there).

It's been hours since he mentioned this village. I'm SO far out from the Gran Pulse now that it'd take me an hour just to hoof it back if not more. That's why I get for getting over zealous. Now I can't do the side missions without taking that hour to run all the way back from this giant tower I'm in, or else I could keep going forward but it seems I'm skipping a lot of side content if I do.
