Hello everyone! Well I registered today and seeing all the awesome art work around gave me a little inspiration This is the first I've designed any kind of character out of scratch so I hope I get some good C+C.
Well I know the scan looks kind of blurry and some details can't actually be appreciated so I'm going to explain a bit. This is my male character, drew it today, as you can see, not so thoroughly designed but it's a start! I was hoping I could create some sort of feathery whip but in the end I thought of some kind of Salamander's tail as a whip. I also know proportions look weird, I've never been good with proportions, but I think this is a pretty general idea of what I wanted to draw. So please tell me what you think and any suggestions of any kind to improve it are more than welcome!
what is wrong with his mouth?
is that a beard?
Also. I think some colour would definately help to visualize your concept,
and that thing on his shoulder, It reminds of what Cloud or Light had on, is the resemblance random?
Ok I'll try to adjust the contrast settings and yeah I wanted to give him a beard hehe guess didn't come out that well and the thing on his shoulder was something I came up with at the very ending. maybe unconsciously I drew it thinking of light or cloud. About the colouring, I'm not that good at it, can anybody give me some tips? Thanks again
Ok everyone. So I darkened the image and improve the contrast, hopefully some of the details will look better now. I'm working on a coloured version but like I said before I'm not that good at colouring So it'll take me a while. Please keep commenting and giving good C+C!
Hah, sorry, I don't really play FFVIII. Well, I do but only the demo version cuz that's all I got. Forgive me for being blank xD
Be careful when coloring - stay in the lines (one of the biggest coloring rules lol). If you're using crayons, try to make the tip thinner and more pointed, so you won't color over the lines. Same thing with colored pencils. If you're using markers, use fine tip ones or smaller. It's usually difficult to control larger tip markers/writing utensils. Well, to me it is(x If you're using like a fat marker or something, it's best to use those to color large areas on the character dude(:
When coloring the design on the guy's shirt, it's best to use a really small-tipped marker.
...Am I making sense? I don't think I am lol(x

Well I kinda understand what you mean. I'll get to it and post it, hope it looks good
Edit: I wanted to ask. What colours do you think would go good with red? I want to colour most of the outfit's lines red, but I'm worried about using too much. Any suggestions?
Edit2: Okay, here's an update on the colours, I know the look very bad but it's just an idea I'll work harder on a very good lucking final version. Tell me what you guys think
Well since I've got this active thread, I thought it would be a waste to open a new one. So, what I want to show you guys is this wallpaper I made! I took 3 different pictures and mashed them up. Plus, there's a special guest in there
Let me see if I can guess the three pictures: one of the sky, one of a waterfall scene in a forest, and one of the ocean from a bird's view. Unless you're counting the render of the Pulse Vestige as a picture, in which case, I take back the guess of the ocean.
Lol, not quite. All of the waterfalls on the right is a picture, the tiny little waterfalls on the lower left corner is another one and the palms directly above those is the third. I didn't count the pulse vestige a picture. Do you like it?
Ah, I see them now that you pointed them out. The waterfall you attached to it is running the opposite direction to the current.
The whole thing looks ok, but not fantastic. The bright spots in the picture provide too much contrast. Also, the Vestige looks weird in the picture. I think that its reflection should not be so calm with all those rapids around it. And the color makes it stick out too much.
it's really gorgeous, nicely blended and would work well as wallpaper. Do you have any dl version of it in 1920x1200 res?
I'm currently using it as my wallpaper, If you're really interested in using I'd be more than happy to batch up a 1920x1200 res version for you. Just explain to me what do you mean by dl and how do I do it?

Try working on consistency.
Well I though that colliding currents would look better I'm not unhappy with that, I could work on making the falls more realistic though. Now that you mention the reflection of the vestige I realize that you're right, I'll work on the reflection too and could you specifically mention those bright spots you talked about? I'd really like to improve this a lot. Thanks for the C+C.
