I think that all of the information that people have been getting from the Japanese sites after translating are incorrect. I bought the Collector's Edition of the official guide, and, according to the Trophies/;Achievements section, Long Gui and Shaolong Gui appear after you complete Mission 51: Attacus, the Soulless. In order to access this mission, you have to complete all of the Missions in the Faultwarrens, also called Titan's Trials.
In full response to Russta:
When the Oretoise enemies (Adamantoise, Adamantortoise, Adamanchelid) change, things get extremely difficult. I've heard various things, but in general, people say that the Adamantoise become Long Gui (16.2 mil hp, gives 100,000 CP + achievement/trophy for defeating it) and the Adamanchelid (tuskluss, young ones) become Shaolong Gui (10.8 mil hp, 60,000 CP on defeat). They are BOTH immune to death, so the trick that involves Vanille, Improved Debuffing, and a massive dose of luck, is rendered ineffective against them. Long Gui drop the same as Adamantoise and Adamantortoise, just with a slightly better drop rate for Trapezohedron. Shaolong Gui, though, completely change their drops from teh Adamanchelid. Adamanchelid drops Gold Dust (25% chance) and Scarletite (1% chance). Shaolong Gui drops Gold Nugget (25% chance - worth 60,000 gil) and Dark Matter (5% chance). Hope that helps!
@Takumi from March 15th: You don't NEED Role Level 5 in all roles plus ultimate weapons to do B and A rank missions. I'm currently doing B and A ranks before finishing Chapter 13, I just completed one mission that got me a Genji Glove, and concerning shrouds, you can buy them after Chapter 12. Fortisol and Aegisol are 12,000 gil each, and Deceptisol are 30,000 gil each. You CANNOT buy Ethersol, however, you can dismantle for them. The Speed Sash, which you can buy for 5,000, needs one level to star, and a Mnar Stone to upgrade. The upgrade, when starred, dismantles into Black Mycelium, and a single Ethersol. Useful items, I use it for Adamantortoise farming.
On another train of thought, We have a Weapon, Accessory, and Item guide already, what would people say to a guide that covers all of the items in game, what turns into what, the required levels to star an item, and, additionally, what item dismantles into what? Since I have the guide, I have access to all of this information at any given point in time. I think the highly detailed answers above can testify to that lol.
